History

Kurashiki-shi Station, on the Mizushima Main Line, traces its origin to a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries works railway opened in July 1943 as "Kurashiki Station." It began carrying passengers on 20 August 1948 under the name Kosha Kurashiki Station, and was taken over by the Kurashiki City Transport Bureau in 1952. On 1 April 1970 the operations transferred to the new third-sector Mizushima Rinkai Railway, and the station was renamed to its present form around the same time. It moved to its current site adjacent to the JR Kurashiki Station forecourt in 1981. It is the only station on the Mizushima Main Line staffed throughout the day.

Notes

The station shares walking-level access with JR Kurashiki Station via a covered pedestrian deck, but the two operators keep their ticket gates and station buildings entirely independent.
