History
Samitagawa Station opened on 30 November 1983 as an infill stop on the Kintetsu Tawaramoto Line between Ikebe and Ōwada, serving the newly developed Nishi-Yamato New Town in Kawai, Nara Prefecture. PiTaPa service began on 1 April 2007, and the station became fully unstaffed on 1 October 2011. The station is an elevated single-track halt with one side platform shared by Shin-Ōji and Nishi-Tawaramoto trains, accessed from footbridges on the north and south sides. Land for converting the layout into a two-platform passing siding has been reserved but never used.

Notes
Although Samitagawa was designed with room to be enlarged into a two-platform passing siding, the reserved land has sat unused for over forty years.
