History

Kitahanada Station opened on 18 April 1987 with the southern extension of the Osaka Municipal Subway’s Midōsuji Line from Abiko to Nakamozu. The station was inherited by Osaka Metro on 1 April 2018 when the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau was privatised, and platform-edge screen doors began operation on 21 August 2021. The station consists of a single underground island platform serving two tracks, and is administered from neighbouring Shin-Kanaoka Station within the Tennōji District. The concourse area outside the gates features a tile mural depicting the Yamato River.

Notes

Although Kitahanada is on the Midōsuji Line — central Osaka’s main north-south trunk — its ridership has dropped to 18th of the line’s 20 stations after the 2017 closure of the Sakai Kitahanada Hankyu department store next door.
