History

Hanadaguchi Station (HN21) is a Hankai Tramway Hankai Line tram stop in Sakai-ku, Sakai. Originally the stop stood one block south of its present position, at the intersection with the old Nagao-kaidō; its name comes from a road known locally as Hanadaguchi-suji that branched off the line toward the Hanada district. When the modern Sakai-Yamato-ji-sen was widened in the post-war period, the stop was relocated to its current position. About eleven years after the line first opened, the 1922 expansion of urban Sakai created a new Hanadaguchi-chō east of the canal, and 'Hanadaguchi' in everyday Sakai usage now usually refers to that area rather than the stop.

Notes

Hanadaguchi's name predates the Sakai district called Hanadaguchi-chō by eleven years: the stop is named after the historic Hanadaguchi-suji road that led northwest from this point, and the more familiar Sakai neighbourhood of the same name was only created in 1922.
