History
Hatakeda Station opened on 27 December 1955 alongside the neighbouring Shizumi Station, as a Japanese National Railways stop on the Wakayama Line between Ōji and Shimoda (today's Kashiba). On 1 April 1987 the station was transferred to JR West at JNR privatisation. Automatic ticket gates entered service on 9 February 1999, and ICOCA fare-card acceptance via simplified gates began on 1 November 2003. Step-free access was added in stages, with a station-building ramp completed in March 2009 and a multipurpose toilet in March 2010. The staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket window closed on 31 August 2024.
