History

Takagi Station opened on 21 July 1914 as the Takagi Stop on the Ryōbi Light Railway, predecessor of the Fukuen Line. The line operator was renamed Ryōbi Railway on 26 June 1926. Nationalisation of the Ryōbi-Fukuyama-to-Fuchūmachi section on 1 September 1933 made the stop a Railway Ministry station and simultaneously elevated it to a full passenger station; the November 1933 opening of the northern Fukuen segment placed it on the rebadged southern Fukuen Line. End-to-end completion of the Fukuyama-Shiomachi line on 28 July 1938 unified it as the Fukuen Line. The station became a simplified-contract stop on 10 December 1970, and JR West took over on 1 April 1987.
