History

Shiwaguchi Station opened on 28 April 1915 on what was then the privately-built Geibi Railway, which was nationalised on 1 July 1937 and absorbed into the Japanese Government Railways. On 6 August 1945 a first-aid post was set up near the station to receive victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima who were evacuated along the Geibi Line. The station building was renovated in March 1980. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it came under JR West. The staffed Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office, opened in 1988, ended service on 31 May 2021, and the station became completely unstaffed the following day.
