History

The station that is now Nishi-Tawaramoto opened on 26 April 1918 as Tawaramoto Station on the Yamato Railway. A separate Tawaramoto Station was opened nearby in 1923 by the Osaka Electric Tramway, and the two have remained distinct stops. Through services between Tawaramoto and Sakurai ended on 11 January 1944 and that section was abandoned in 1958. On 1 October 1964, the Yamato Railway was absorbed by the Shigi-Ikoma Electric Railway, which was itself simultaneously merged into the Kintetsu Railway; this station was renamed Nishi-Tawaramoto at that time. PiTaPa contactless ticketing became available on 1 April 2007. The station is the terminus of the Kintetsu Tawaramoto Line.
