History

Miwa Station opened on 11 May 1898 as a station on the Nara Railway in what is today Sakurai, Nara Prefecture. The Nara Railway was acquired by the Kansai Railway in 1905, which was itself nationalised in 1907. Although the station's rail infrastructure remains formally part of the Sakurai Line, passenger services have been operated under the Man-yō Mahoroba Line brand since March 2010. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West, and it is now an unstaffed above-ground station with two side platforms.
