History

Izumigaoka Station opened on 1 April 1971 as the original terminus of the Senboku Rapid Railway, serving the Senboku New Town development in Minami-ku, Sakai. The line was extended to Toga-Mikita on 7 December 1973, making the station an intermediate stop. Major renovations began in December 2016 to address aging facilities; relocated ticket gates entered service in November 2017 and all works concluded in April 2018, alongside new in-station retail tenants. A new departure melody composed by Minoru Mukaiya was introduced on 26 March 2022. Following Senboku Rapid Railway's absorption into Nankai Electric Railway on 1 April 2025, the station number changed from SB03 to NK89.
