History

Kawanishi Station opened on 15 August 1911 in Tondabayashi, Osaka Prefecture, as a stop on the Kawachi Railway between Gakkō-mae (now Tondabayashi-Nishiguchi) and Takidanifudō. The Kawachi Railway became the Osaka Railway in March 1919. The station was closed in April 1920 and reopened on 11 September 1920 under the name Tsuzuyama, before reverting to Kawanishi in April 1933. Through the 1943 Kansai Express Railway absorption of the Osaka Railway and the 1944 formation of Kintetsu, it passed to its current operator and now sits on the Kintetsu Nagano Line. The station was elevated in September 1982 in connection with the construction of the Route 309 Tondabayashi Bypass.
