History

Kaminochō Station opened on 20 March 1988, the same day the Honshi-Bisan Line (also marketed as the Seto-Ōhashi Line) entered service across the new Great Seto Bridge linking Honshū and Shikoku. The station sits in the Kojima district of Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, and is operated by the West Japan Railway Company. It carries station number JR-M11. Because the station has no point machines or absolute signals, JR West classifies it as a halt rather than a full station. ICOCA-capable simplified ticket gates were introduced on 9 July 2007 and the card became usable on 1 September of the same year. Platform-height adjustment work raising the platforms from 920 mm to 1,100 mm was completed in March 2009.
