History

Aonoyama Station opened on 1 April 1961 as a halt between Tsuwano and Nichihara on the JNR Yamaguchi Line, serving only passenger workings of diesel railcars. It came under the West Japan Railway Company at the 1 April 1987 privatization of Japanese National Railways. The station sits 66.1 kilometers from the line's terminus at Shin-Yamaguchi, in the town of Tsuwano, Kanoashi District, Shimane Prefecture. It has a single side platform with no station building — only a small shelter on the platform — and the platform is reached by a slope down from the road, the station being built on a slope. There are no ticket machines on site, and it is administered as an unstaffed halt by Shin-Yamaguchi Station.
