History

Kamifukawa Station opened on 20 March 1929 as a stop on the privately operated Geibi Railway in present-day Asakita Ward, Hiroshima. The line was nationalised on 1 July 1937, and the station was suspended on 10 August 1941 amid wartime austerity, only resuming service exactly seven years later on 10 August 1948. Operations were contracted out from 1963 and the station was destaffed in 1971; it received its current simple shelter in March 1978. JR West inherited it at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987, and ICOCA acceptance began in September 2007. A single side platform serves one track, and trains heading toward Miyoshi enter the 124-metre Dakiiwa Tunnel just beyond the station.
