History
Kamiyasu Station, located in Asaminami Ward, Hiroshima, opened on 20 August 1994 as part of the inaugural Astram Line operated by Hiroshima Rapid Transit. Its construction was overshadowed by a serious accident on 14 March 1991, when an elevated guideway girder collapsed nearby during work, killing fifteen people and injuring eight. A memorial to that disaster stands close to the station. An island platform serving two tracks sits above a concourse with ticket gates one level down; the station colour is purple. Express service from 20 March 1999 bypassed Kamiyasu but was discontinued on 20 March 2004, restoring all-stop operation. PASPY IC cards were accepted from 8 August 2009.
