History
Wakigami Station is a JR West stop on the Wakayama Line in Gose, Nara Prefecture, located 20.9 kilometres from Ōji. It opened on 10 May 1896 as Yakugami Station on the private Nanwa Railway, was renamed Tsubosaki on 15 May 1903, absorbed into the Kansai Railway in 1904, and nationalised in 1907. The current name was adopted on 1 April 1940. The station became unstaffed on 20 October 1984 and passed to JR West at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The old wooden building on the outbound platform was removed in 2020 when a simplified building was installed opposite, and ICOCA service began on 17 March 2018.
