History

Yokogawa-itchōme Station (Y03) is a Hiroden Yokogawa Line tram stop in Nishi-ku, Hiroshima. It opened in 1917 with the original Yokogawa Line as Kōryūjimae Station, named for the Kōryū-ji temple that then stood just west of the platforms. The Yokogawa Line was originally on dedicated track; when an urban road was built through here in 1938, the line was converted to shared-road running, the Kōryū-ji temple grounds were taken for the road and the temple moved to Misasa-chō. Around 1938 the stop was renamed Yokogawa-itchōme.

Notes

Yokogawa-itchōme was originally called Kōryūjimae after a temple that stood next to the line; in 1938 a new road took the temple grounds, the temple moved to Misasa-chō and the stop was renamed Yokogawa-itchōme.
