History

The history of Kanon-machi on the Hiroden Main Line is unusually tangled with that of the adjacent Tenma-machi stop, with sources differing on exact dates. By 1921 a Kanon-machi stop was in operation; around 1929 it was closed and the neighbouring Nishi-Tenma-machi stop took over the Kanon-machi name. Kanon-machi was re-opened on 11 July 1936, with the neighbouring stop reverting to Nishi-Tenma-machi. Service was suspended in May 1942. The stop returned to service on 21 April 1964 under the name Nishi-Tenma-machi, then took back the name Kanon-machi on 1 April 1965. Station number "M16" was assigned in October 1996 and changed to "M15" on 3 August 2025.

Notes

The platforms here sit on a road too narrow to comfortably hold them: the upbound platform stands just beyond a curve and has been notched out so passing trams will not foul the platform edge.
