History

Hondōri Station opened on 20 August 1994 as the starting station of Hiroshima New Transit Line 1 (the Astram Line), located in Hondōri, Naka-ku, Hiroshima. The platform sits 11.4 metres below sea level — the deepest point on the line. Express services that began with the March 1999 timetable revision called at Hondōri until the expresses were discontinued in March 2004. PASPY became valid at the automatic fare gates on 8 August 2009. The station shares entrances with the underground Kamiyachō Shareo arcade, and a 2015 upgrade brought announcements and platform indicators in line with the equipment installed at Shin-Hakushima.

Notes

At 11.4 m below sea level, Hondōri is the deepest station on the Astram Line; the short Hondōri-Jōhoku segment was placed underground specifically to preserve the cityscape around the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park.
