History

The stop opened on 23 November 1912 with the Hiroden Ujina Line's first section from Kamiyachō to Miyukibashi, then named Makomobashi after a bridge over the Saitōgawa (Saidōgawa) river that once flowed here. Around 1919 the surrounding district was renamed Kokutaijichō, and the stop was renamed Kōkaidō-mae after the nearby Hiroshima Public Hall; the hall itself, near today's Naka-ward office, was demolished during wartime building evacuation. Operations were suspended from 10 June 1944. The stop reopened on 1 November 1946 under its present name, Shiyakusho-mae. Station number "U4" was assigned in October 1996. In February 2009 the platforms were rebuilt with sponsored glass shelters and were moved to their current arrangement at the end of that month; the renumber to "U04" took effect on 3 August 2025.

Notes

The advertising-sponsored glass platform shelters installed here in 2009 were the first of their kind at any Japanese tram stop.
