History

Yakuri Station opened on 18 November 1911 on the Tōsan Electric Tramway, in what is now Mure-chō, Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture. The operator became the Sanuki Electric Railway in 1942 and was consolidated into the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railway (Kotoden) on 1 November 1943. From 26 January 1945 to 9 October 1949 service on the Yakuri - Kotoden-Shido section was suspended, and during this period Yakuri operated as a terminus before through service was restored. The station is designated S08 on the Kotoden Shido Line and lies 6.7 km from the opposing terminus at Kawaramachi. It serves as the gateway to nearby Yakuri-ji, the 85th temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage, and to the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum.
