History
Matsushima-Nichōme Station opened on 18 November 1911 on the Tosan Electric Tramway as Matsushima-Yonchōme. It followed the standard Kagawa lineage, passing to Shikoku Hydroelectric in 1916, Sanuki Electric Railway in 1942, and the Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad on 1 November 1943. In August 1971 the station was relocated about 100 m towards Kawaramachi and renamed to its present form, reflecting administrative changes in the surrounding neighbourhood. A passing loop was installed in August 1996. Designated station S02, the unstaffed stop has two side platforms serving two tracks, linked by a level crossing, and lies 1.2 km from the Kawaramachi terminus.

Notes
Among Japan's railway stations whose names are not on tramways or subways, Matsushima-Nichōme is the only one whose name includes a chōme (city-block) suffix.
