History

Ōta opened on 21 December 1926 as a station on the original Kotohira Electric Railway. It became a Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railroad (Kotoden) station on the Kotohira Line through the 1 November 1943 wartime merger. The Sanjō–Ōta section north of the station was double-tracked on 1 November 2020.

Notes

The platform departure indicators here use a system also found at older German railway stations: the leading text "Next train" stays solid black at all times, while the station name lights up in the part that changes as each new train departs the previous stop.
