History

Ofuku Station opened on 30 October 1920 as the terminus of the Mine Light Railway when the line was extended from Shigeyasu. The line was renamed the Mine Line in September 1922, and on 23 March 1924 it was extended further to Shōmyōichi (today's Nagatoshi), making Ofuku an intermediate stop. Freight handling ended on 15 March 1972, the station became unstaffed on 1 February 1985, and operations passed to JR West with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station building was refurbished in 2013 as a community exchange space. Service has been suspended since 1 July 2023 after typhoon damage to the Asa River bridges, with a replacement bus operating.

Notes

The 9.9 km gap between Ofuku and the next stop at Shibuki is the longest inter-station distance on the JR West Mine Line, owing to a watershed that lies between them.
