History

Sandō Station opened on 18 August 1933 as Sandō-Nagayama Station on the Wakayama Railway. In 1945 the nearby Higashi-Sandō Station was abolished and Sandō-Nagayama assumed the name Sandō—the second station to bear that name on this line. The Kishigawa Line was absorbed into Wakayama Electric Tramway in 1957 and Nankai Electric Railway in 1961, with the station building demolished in 1997. The current operator, Wakayama Electric Railway, took over on 1 April 2006. The unstaffed station consists of a single side platform serving a single track.
