History
Kire Station opened on 1916-02-15 on the Santō Light Railway in what is now Kire, Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture. The line became the Santō Railway in 1929, the Wakayama Railway in 1931, then merged with Wakayama Electric Tramway in 1957 and Nankai Electric Railway in 1961, after which it formed the Nankai Kishigawa Line. The station building was demolished in March 1998, leaving only a platform with a small canopy and a separate unisex pit toilet. On 2006-04-01 the line was transferred to the new Wakayama Electric Railway, becoming a Kishigawa Line station carrying station number 08. The station is unstaffed and has no ticket vending or fare gate, though additional conductors ride from Wakayama to handle peak-hour collections owing to its busy ridership.

Notes
Kire is the only station on the Kishigawa Line without a station-name sign on the platform itself, retaining only the platform-entrance plaque.
