History

Shigeyasu Station opened on 15 September 1916 as the original terminus of the Mine Light Railway when it was extended from Isa Station (now Minami-Ōmine) to Shigeyasu. It became an intermediate stop on 30 October 1920 after the line was extended further north to Ofuku, and was nationalised in June 1920 as part of the Mine Light Railway absorption. Freight was discontinued in 1982, parcels in 1984, and the station was made unstaffed in 1986. Following JNR privatisation in 1987, JR West took over operations. Until 2009 the station handled limestone freight from the adjacent Taiheiyō Cement Shigeyasu Mining facility via dedicated trains to Ubeminato. The line was suspended in July 2023 after typhoon damage to bridges over the Asa River.
