History
Katsuma Station opened on 28 March 1934 as an intermediate stop when the Ministry of Railways extended the Iwatoku West Line from Suō-Hanaoka to Takamizu. On 1 December that year the line was incorporated into the San'yō Main Line as the new mainline between Mariu (now Iwakuni) and Kushigahama, and the station moved with it. In October 1944 the through route reverted to the older Yanai-via alignment, after which Katsuma became part of the Gantoku Line. Freight handling ceased in February 1964, parcels in March 1971, and the station was unstaffed thereafter. With the 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways, operation passed to JR West.
