History
Minami-Onoda Station opened on 25 November 1915 as Cement-chō Station on the Onoda Light Railway in San'yō-Onoda. After nationalisation of the Onoda Railway on 1 April 1943 it was renamed Onodakō Station, but on 1 October 1947 the line was extended further to Suzumeda; the original station became Onodakō Station Kitaguchi while a new Onodakō was built at the present spot. On 12 March 1962 the station building was rebuilt, and three days later, on 15 March 1962, the Kitaguchi halt was renamed Minami-Onoda Station as an independent station. It became unstaffed (under simple commission) on 1 February 1985 and passed to JR West with JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987.

Notes
The street address "Cement-chō" still exists east of Minami-Onoda Station as the official place name, preserving the original 1915 station name even though the station itself was renamed in 1943 and again in 1962.
