History

Fujinoki Station opened on 12 August 1944 under the Ministry of Transport and Communications as an additional stop on the existing Chikuhō Main Line, also known as the Wakamatsu Line. Parcel handling ended in February 1984, when the station was made unstaffed. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, operation passed to JR Kyushu. SUGOCA service began on 1 March 2009, and on 4 March 2017 Fujinoki became a Smart Support Station: passengers using the ticket machines or gates can receive intercom assistance from staff at a central support centre at Nakama.
