History

Dōgo Onsen Station opened on 22 August 1895 as "Dōgo Station" on the Dōgo Railway, sited near the present-day storage track. It became an Iyotetsu stop with the 11 August 1900 merger of the two companies, and after the Matsuyama Electric Tramway (which had run its own Dōgo Station from 1907) was absorbed in April 1921 the rival station was closed the following month. The current Jōnan Line alignment opened on 2 May 1926, and the stop was renamed Dōgo Onsen on 1 April 1961. The original station building was dismantled in December 1985 and a faithful replica reopened on 31 May 1986; barrier-free works and a station-building Starbucks were added on 22 December 2017.

Notes

Dōgo Onsen is the only Iyotetsu Matsuyama city-line stop officially designated 駅 ("station"); every other stop on the network is called a 電停 ("tram stop").
