History
Kitagata Station opened on 9 January 1985 with the Kitakyūshū Monorail Kokura Line. ICOCA/SUGOCA-family card use ('mono SUGOCA') began on 1 October 2015. The station is an elevated halt sharing its viaduct with Kitakyūshū Urban Expressway Route 1, which is laid out above the station building; supporting columns are built into the station as a result, giving it a distinct appearance. It carries number 07.

Notes
Locals colloquially refer to the Kitakyūshū Driver's-License Test Centre as 'Kitagata', but its real nearest station is the next stop, Keibajō-mae. Inbound announcements on Kiku-gaoka-bound trains warn riders to alight at Keibajō-mae instead, and notices are posted in the station to the same effect. Kitakyūshū City University's Kitagata Campus also has Keibajō-mae as its real nearest stop.
