History
Kurate Station opened on 1 July 1987 as an additional stop on the existing Chikuhō Main Line track in the town of Kurate, Fukuoka Prefecture, the same date Japan's National Railways were privatized into JR companies. The station is operated by JR Kyushu and sits 18.7 km from the line's starting point at Wakamatsu. On 4 March 2017 Kurate became a remotely managed "Smart Support Station": although unstaffed on site, passengers using the ticket machines or gates can call for help by intercom from a central support centre at Nakama. The station has two side platforms that are not directly opposed, with the tracks running on the east side of each, linked by a sheltered footbridge.
