History

Koizumi Station (IY30) is on the Iyo Railway Gunchū Line in Masaki, Iyo District, Ehime Prefecture. The station opened on 9 March 1967, and was refurbished and made step-free in May 2008 ahead of the opening of the neighbouring Emifull MASAKI shopping centre, with daytime contract station staff installed on 1 September 2008 — formerly an unstaffed stop surrounded by farmland, ridership rose sharply after the shopping centre opened. According to Masaki's Wikipedia article, the town sits at the southern end of the Dōgo Plain in northwestern Shikoku, adjoins Matsuyama City to the north and serves as part of its commuter belt, and at 20.41 km² is the smallest municipality by area in Ehime Prefecture; despite that small area, both the Iyo Railway Gunchū Line (coastal side) and JR Shikoku's Yosan Line (inland side) run lengthwise through the town, giving it six rail stations in total.

Notes

The Masaki Wikipedia article notes that the town is the only municipality in Ehime Prefecture with no mountains.
