History
Kotake Station opened on 28 October 1892 as the new southern terminus of the privately run Chikuho Kogyo Railway in what is now the town of Kotake in Fukuoka Prefecture. It became a through-station on 3 July 1893 when the track was extended further south. Through successive mergers and nationalisation the station passed from the Chikuho Kogyo Railway to the Kyushu Railway in 1897 and then to Japanese Government Railways on 1 July 1907; the Chikuhō Main Line designation followed in 1909. With the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987 control passed to JR Kyushu. The station was rebuilt as a bridge-type station in October 2001 alongside line electrification.

Notes
The station building incorporates a Kotake-town community hall and a free passageway, and its design draws on the kanji for "bamboo" (竹) found in the station's name.
