History
Japanese Government Railways opened Mugi Station on 1 July 1942 as the terminus of the Mugi Line, then being extended south from Hiwasa. The line was further extended to Kaifu on 1 October 1973, after which Mugi became an intermediate station. Freight handling ended in October 1974 and parcel handling in February 1984. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR the station passed to JR Shikoku. Limited-express service began with the "Uzushio" on 21 November 1990, later renamed "Muroto"; the last regular limited-express service on the line ended on 15 March 2025. The station has an island platform with two tracks, remains a directly-operated station, and carries the number M24.

Notes
Mugi was one of the last stations in Japan to sell the heavyweight stock "jōbiken" version of the youth Seishun 18 Kippu — paper-stock standing inventory rather than printed-on-demand — with that format ending sale here on 31 December 2016.
