History

Namazuta Station opened on 3 July 1893 as an intermediate station on the private Chikuho Industrial Railway's new extension south from Kotake to Iizuka. The railway was renamed the Chikuho Railway and merged with the Kyushu Railway on 1 October 1897. After the Kyushu Railway was nationalised on 1 July 1907, the station passed to Japanese Government Railways, and on 12 October 1909 the surrounding track became part of the Chikuho Main Line. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of JNR the station passed to JR Kyushu. The station, now unstaffed, has two staggered side platforms with a modern concrete station building and a sheltered footbridge linking the two sides.
