History

Ippommatsu Station opened on 22 March 1997 as a passenger stop on the Hitahikosan Line in Kawara, Fukuoka, operated by JR Kyushu and numbered JI12. It sits on a portion of line first laid by the predecessor Kokura Railway, near which an earlier Ippommatsu halt had existed between 1935 and 1942. The station is 25.0 km from the line origin at Jōno and is served by roughly one local train per hour outside peak periods, with two per hour during commute hours. It became a rapid-service stop on 14 July 2018. It is unstaffed but has a ticket-vending machine, and during the morning rush a member of staff is dispatched from neighbouring Tagawa-Ita.

Notes

During the morning commute, because alighting volume is high enough to risk delay, JR Kyushu opens every door on the platform side and a staff member dispatched from the next station collects fares directly on the platform.
