History

Shimoita Station opened on 1 April 1992 in the city of Tagawa, Fukuoka, serving the Itoda Line of the third-sector Heisei Chikuhō Railway and numbered HC14. It sits 14.5 km from the line origin at Nōgata and is reached by trains roughly every 30 minutes. The station consists of two opposed side platforms connected by a level crossing, with no station building and only a platform shelter; it is unattended. Since April 2009, Fukuoka Prefectural Tagawa Science and Technology High School has held naming rights to the station, which is therefore styled "Tagawa Science and Technology High School-mae Shimoita Station". The down-line platform is ramp-accessible but the up-line platform has only steps.
