History
Tōjinmachi Station opened on 26 July 1981 as part of the inaugural section of Fukuoka City Subway Line 1, now the Airport Line. On 1 April 2015 it became a business-outsourced station and was transferred from the (since-disbanded) Meinohama management district to the Tenjin district. Operator Nishi-Nippon Railroad's Station Services subsidiary handles day-to-day operations on behalf of Tenjin Station. Two staircases descend to an island platform built beneath Meiji-dōri between the Kuromon-Nishi and Tōjinmachi-Nishi intersections; the station carries code K05 and on 20 November 2025 introduced ticket gates dedicated to IC card and contactless-payment users.

Notes
On Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks home-game days the station floods with fans bound for the nearby Dome, and the station regularly broadcasts announcements urging arrivals to buy their return tickets before walking to the ballpark to avoid post-game congestion.
