History
Kyūdai-Gakkentoshi Station opened on 23 September 2005 as a new infill stop on the existing Chikuhi Line, sited to serve Kyushu University's Ito Campus, which itself opened a week later. Preparatory works for the station had in fact been completed in 1999 during the elevation between Imajuku and Susenji. The SUGOCA IC card became usable on 13 March 2010. From 15 March 2014 rapid services began stopping on Saturdays and holidays as well as weekdays. Lightweight platform-door trials began in November 2017 and entered regular service on 1 February 2019. JR Kyushu took over direct station operation from its outsourcing subsidiary on 1 October 2023. The station code is JK04.

Notes
Although the station is named for Kyushu University, the Ito Campus it serves is about 4–5 km away on foot; the station's primary access function is as the bus-transfer node for the university shuttle.
