History

Sakurazaka Station opened on 3 February 2005 with the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line. The station, designed between February and November 2000 and built from March 2003 to July 2004, has been a business-outsourced operation since opening under Tenjin-Minami's managed area. The single island platform with two tracks sits beneath the Jōnan-sen avenue, slightly east of the former Nishitetsu Jōnan-line tram stop (廃止 1975). The station code is N12, and the station name literally means "cherry blossom slope" — the logo depicts seven cherry petals fluttering in the wind.

Notes

The 7-Eleven beside the station has been visited by Fukuoka-born singer Masaharu Fukuyama in tribute to his hit song "Sakurazaka," a connection he has mentioned during Fukuoka tour stops.
