History
Chikuzen-Maebaru Station opened on 1 April 1924 as Maebaru Station, the eastern terminus of the private Kitakyushu Railway. The line was extended west to Meinohama on 15 April 1925, making the station an intermediate stop. On 1 October 1937 the Kitakyushu Railway was nationalised; Japanese Government Railways renamed it Chikuzen-Maebaru and renamed the line the Chikuhi Line. The line was electrified on 22 March 1983 and through-running with the Fukuoka City Subway began, with Fukuoka subway trains turning back here. The station joined JR Kyushu on 1 April 1987 at privatisation, and a new elevated station building opened on 19 December 1999.
