History

Misakigaoka Station opened on 28 October 1995 when JR Kyushu added a new stop to the existing Chikuhi Line track in what is now the city of Itoshima, Fukuoka Prefecture. The station is served only by local Chikuhi Line trains and sits 14.3 km from the line's starting point at Meinohama. Its station building is a distinctive elevated red-barrel structure built directly over the track, with two entrances connected by flights of steps. Day-to-day operations have been outsourced to JR Kyushu Tetsudou Eigyou, a wholly owned station-services subsidiary that staffs the ticket counter; the booth has a POS terminal but no Midori no Madoguchi.

Notes

A second yellow tube-shaped tunnel entrance climbs from a residential area on higher ground south of the tracks and joins the red barrel partway up — an unusual layout for a hashigami-style station.
