History
Akano Station opened on 1 July 2002 as an intermediate station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway's Asa Line between Gomen and Nahari. Located in the city of Aki, Kōchi Prefecture, it carries the number GN30 and lies 19.6 kilometres from Gomen. The facility consists of a single elevated side platform reached by a flight of steps, with no station building; a small platform shelter together with a separate waiting room, parking lots, and a bike shed at the base of the elevated structure replace it. Local trains and one morning rapid service stop here. A previous Akano Station on the Tosa Electric Railway Aki Line, at a different location, was discontinued when that line closed on 31 March 1974.

Notes
The Yanase-designed station mascot, Akano Kamome-chan, is a seagull in a sailor suit chosen because the Asa Line hugs the Pacific coast nearby and seagulls are common in the area.
