History

Chikuzen-Fukae Station opened on 1 April 1924 as an intermediate stop on the private Kitakyushu Railway between Fukuyoshi and Hamasaki. When the Kitakyushu Railway was nationalised on 1 October 1937, Japanese Government Railways took over the station and designated its line the Chikuhi Line. Control passed to JR Kyushu at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. From 3 March 2001 the station became the normal terminus for through-services from the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, and on 26 March 2018 a new elevated station building and free pedestrian passageway opened. The station was formerly the representative station of the former town of Nijō, and currently consists of an island platform serving two tracks.
