History

Aki Station opened on 1 July 2002 as an intermediate stop when Tosa Kuroshio Railway inaugurated the Asa Line (Gomen-Nahari Line) between Gomen and Nahari. The station is the operational heart of the line: it houses the Asa Line CTC operations centre and rolling-stock depot, and many local services start or terminate here. The station is staffed and equipped with a JR Shikoku Midori-no-Madoguchi reservation facility, allowing passengers to buy through-tickets onto the JR network. A produce market called the Aki Ekijibasan Ichiba operates inside the station building.

Notes

Each station on the Asa Line has a cartoon mascot designed by Kōchi-born artist Takashi Yanase; Aki Station's mascot is "Aki Utako-chan", a singer character whose costume features music-note motifs in honour of Aki-born composer Ryūtarō Hirota.
