History

Fukuyoshi Station opened on 5 December 1923 as the eastern terminus of the private Kitakyushu Railway's line running from Hamasaki. It became a through-station on 1 April 1924 when the track was extended east to Maebaru, now Chikuzen-Maebaru. When the Kitakyushu Railway was nationalised on 1 October 1937, Japanese Government Railways took over the station and designated its line the Chikuhi Line. Control passed to JR Kyushu at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. The elevated station building bridging the tracks entered service on 18 February 1997, and SUGOCA usage began on 13 March 2010. The unstaffed station consists of an island platform serving two tracks plus a siding, with station number JK14.
