History
Ōtsuru Station opened on 22 August 1937, the day Japanese Government Railways extended the then Hitosan Line from Yoake to Hōshuyama in Hita, Ōita Prefecture. On 1 April 1960 the track was linked with sections to the north and incorporated into the Hitahikosan Line. Following the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways the unstaffed station passed to JR Kyushu. Service was suspended in July 2017 after torrential rainfall buried the line between Soeda and Yoake with mud and debris; JR Kyushu has not announced a date for resumption. The current building is a new structure built in traditional Japanese style, similar to the building at Yoake, and serves only as a waiting room.
