Matsuura-Hatsudenshomae Station opened on 11 March 1989 as a new stop on the Matsuura Railway Nishi-Kyūshū Line. The name refers to the Matsuura Power Station, which sits immediately north of the station, with the Electric Power Development Company's Matsuura Thermal Power Station nearby to the northeast. The station consists of a single ground-level side platform with no station building, only a waiting room.
